Notes from the tourney:
Our girls played very well. Many compliments from opposing coaches, players, and parents that our team is very good, very disciplined and good sportsmanship, and looked like a team that has played for many seasons.
Things to work on:
Sliding (head first/legs first hook slide), situational outs at base runner/throw to first base decisions, situational batting/hitting (1st and 2nd swing are hard cuts at the ball, 3rd strike is must to put the ball in play, bunting successfully on first try and sacrifice bunting with runners on base), base coverage when opposing team is bunting, pickle/pick-offs w/runners on base.

Dear Flatoday Editors,
We are in need of your assistance in getting attention to our Little League girls' predicament. Our girls and parents were informed last week by Little League that our Allstar teams, 4 teams in all (consisting of age groups 9-10 Majors, 11-12 Little League, 13-14 Juniors, 15-16 Seniors) will NOT BE ALLOWED to play. I have been a volunteer coach of Port St John Little League for the past 9 years and this year will be my daughters (twins) last year in the Senior division. My daughters have been playing since T-ball division through Senior division and it will be ashamed if they are unable to compete in Allstars play. The leagues, players, and parents completed everything according to the directions of our District Administrator, Sonny Pierce (321-459-9714 from Merritt Island), when they signed up to play at the beginning of the season. In addition, these players have worked/played hard all season to earn their positions on the Allstars team only to hear St Pete telling them that they are INELIGIBLE to play. That's not acceptable nor fair to these kids.
Mr. Pierce, District 22 DA, according to St Pete (LL Southern Region HQ) had failed to turn in proper paperwork at the beginning of the 2004 season and thus making us ineligible to play post season Allstars. Apparently Mr. Pierce had failed to perform his duties as the DA, and he has not return any calls by PSJLL board members as well as calls from Allstars' parents and players. He is and should be held accountable. Our parents have also not received a return call from St Pete.
On Wednesday of last week, PSJLL and our teams were informed by St Pete that they did not received paperwork from all of the leagues in our District 22 by deadline to play. Our District 22 consisting of Mims, Titusville, Indian River City, Pt St John, Cocoa, Rockledge, E Merritt Island, N MI, and S MI, all had to turn in "softball release forms by each league Presidents" for players in their area to be eligible to play. Initially, we were informed by St Pete that release forms were required then it was because our number (count) of players in our leagues were too big (although there are many leagues that are much bigger count than our whole district). Our district consisted of NO teams in Minor division (split of 3 or 4 teams would mean each team would play each other five or six times) so instead we had 8 teams in Major and 6 teams in Senior division. There are leagues bigger than our district as a whole, for example San Carlos LL has 10 Senior teams, 14 Major teams, and 16 Minor teams (all in one league). Anyway, the league presidents all met over the weekend to collect the proper paperwork and attached appropriate meeting minutes.
On Monday of this week, Mr Ed Dufrene of PSJLL hand delivered the required paperwork to St Pete. Although over the phone both Williamsport Main HQ and St Pete stated they needed the proper paperwork and documentation to play. Wiliamsport was receptive to our calls. However, upon Mr Dufrene's several attempt to personally deliver the required paperwork St Pete finally and reluctantly agreed to see him. According to Mr. Dufrene, his meeting with St Pete staff (Ted Trivigno - Regional Director 727-344-2661, Jen Colvin And Tese Willis Ass't Regional Director) was very unprofessional, "down-right mean", and basically refused to give any time to the situation with the answer already being NO. This is where we stand today. Allstars play starts on July 5th with deadlines to register quickly approaching.
We need your assistance by opening the communication lines between our leagues and St Pete. We ask that LL HQ review the circumstances, see the mistakes and errors made by our district administrator and he should be made accountable, it's not the fault of the kids, and reconsider allowing our kids to compete in Allstars. In addition and if necessary, we are asking for your assistance in getting us LEGAL help to pursue other avenues such as an injunction to St Pete sighting the errors made by our DA and/or St Pete's inappropriate and unprofessional REVIEW process although the paperwork were according to LL rules and guidelines.
